Erik Berkley has worked behind the scenes in television for almost a decade. He has worked on shows and for stations in the cities of Los Angeles, Palm Springs and Santa Barbara, California.
After completing his Bachelor of Science Degree from San Diego State University, Erik decided to move back to Los Angeles to pursue a career in sports broadcasting. After only a few semesters of related coursework at Santa Monica College he started working directly as an off-camera intern reporter for KABC in Los Angeles. He worked at Bruin football games and Angels baseball games while assisting producers with their shows. Erik then moved to Palm Springs to work for KESQ, an ABC affiliate station. While working for KESQ, he was hired as a Photojournalist.
Erik focused his talented efforts into learning live truck operation, avid editing and documentary style news shooting while producing and shooting sports newscasts for their football show "Friday Nigh Blitz."
Following his work for KESQ, Erik traveled north to Santa Barbara and spent the next following 3 years with KEYT in Santa Barbara. He continued honing his skills in shooting, live van and editing. He mastered tape-to-tape editing and transitioned into non-linear editing when the station moved to digital.
Erik’s accolades include receiving an Edward R. Murrow Award for "best live shot," and the airing of a story by Erik about an injured American soldier on, "Life and Times" on PBS.
He’s also written reports for two print papers in Santa Barbara including the “The Daily Sound” and the Santa Barbara Community College paper, "The Channels." Erik wrote news reports, sports briefs and features for both papers.
In his spare time, Mr. Berkley enjoys working out, reading, playing in an adult baseball league, traveling and continuing his education in Broadcast Journalism.
